Camille Saint-Saëns' Cello Concerto No. 1 in A Minor, Op. 33 is a standout work in the cello concerto repertoire. It was written in 1872 for French cellist and viola da gamba player Auguste Tolbecque, and would become an early indication of Saint-Saëns' compositional capabilities. It is one of the most frequently performed cello concertos and is a fan favorite in concert halls around the world.
