Estudios Sencillos No. 2

by:

Emmanuel Sowicz

Leo Brouwer’s Estudios Sencillos are among the most successful pedagogical pieces for the guitar, especially in the 20th century. His synthesis of modernist classical styles with Afro-Cuban rhythms and motives are presented in twenty short-form studies, each focusing on a particular technical issue. The second study is perhaps overlooked for its simplicity and its surprisingly short length. However, this piece is an excellent study on performing legato. Emmanuel Sowicz’s detailed lesson covers left-hand legato as well as right-hand attack and balance necessary to execute this small gem of the guitar repertoire.
