Johann Sebastian Bach's "Prelude and Fugue in C Major, BWV 846" is the opening piece from Book I of his monumental work, "The Well-Tempered Clavier." Composed in the early 18th century, it is a hallmark of Baroque keyboard music. The Prelude, with its joyful and arpeggiated character, sets a cheerful tone, while the Fugue, a masterpiece of counterpoint and structure, follows with elegance. The prelude has become one of the most recognizable pieces of the standard piano repertoire.
