Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13 "Pathétique"

By

Ludwig van Beethoven

Beethoven's "Pathétique" Sonata, officially titled Piano Sonata No. 8 in C minor, Op. 13, was composed in 1798. It consists of three movements and is widely celebrated for its dramatic contrasts and dynamic use of silence and musical power. The movements are marked Grave - Allegro di molto e con brio, Adagio cantabile, and Rondo: Allegro. The nickname "Pathétique" was added by Beethoven himself and reflects the sonata's powerful emotional range and dramatic contrasts.
