The first book of Arnoldo Sartorio's Sight Reading Exercises, Op. 45, is an excellent "walkthrough" in developing fluent sight-reading technique. The exercises were published under the pseudonym Christian Schäfer in 1908, and offer a step-by-step increase in sight-reading complexity. The earlier exercises are perfectly suited for beginners, and the later ones pose a nice challenge for the intermediate pianist.
