Trumpet Concerto in E-flat: I. Allegro con Spirito

By

Johann Nepomuk Hummel

Johann Nepomuk Hummel's Trumpet Concerto in E-flat Major, completed in December 1803, was composed for the Viennese trumpet virtuoso Anton Weidinger, inventor of the keyed trumpet. The first movement, Allegro con Spirito, is notable for its lively and spirited character, featuring brilliant passages that exploit the technical capabilities of the keyed trumpet. Originally written in E major, the concerto is typically performed in E-flat major today to accommodate modern valve trumpets. This movement, marked by its energetic and virtuosic demands, highlights Hummel's innovative approach to the trumpet concerto form.
